Don't Stand So Close to Me

*hums along* Don't Stand so, don't stand so close to me..doot doot doot.
Ah the Police, a band so vital to our American 80s pop scene, it's hard to imagine what Sting would be doing now. Though I suspect it would have something to do with yoga or shoe selling, just a guess.
I know I listened to their songs a long time ago, but the experience I remember best is seeing a Kiki's Delivery Service AMV with their "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" song.
I don't know why, but that's the first image that pops into my head when I hear them mentioned.
Otherwise, I recall many a car trip in the Colorado Rockies where my father would play a mix tape filled with songs from the 80s and 90s. So many songs that are forever burned into my brain, but the artists usually escape me. With few exceptions, The Police being one of them.
I know how so many girls love Baz Lhurman's Moulin Rouge. Even though Nirvana was played in it (uhm....that was just weird. I'm a huge Nirvana fan and that sort of made me sad), I remember "Roxanne" best. There was something so fantastic with the grittyness of the song mixed with the libertines of France.
I think The Police are best heard in the car, or at parties. Most people have a song they instantly recognize once it comes on. And it makes for fantastic karaoke.
Which is why if I ever have a karaoke party I'll be getting the 2 disc Police Cd compilation that came out on June 5th. Buying it includes a vintage poster, which is pretty cool. Display you are a child of the 80s with Sting's ever present smirk over your bed.
If you haven't gotten your fill of The Police you should check out this:

It's a mini-website! Which features these neat little Police-related bits-o-fun:

It's quite amusing and a nice time waster while you wait for your 2CD Police compilation album to arrive.
